Thursday Training
NUMBER SWAP
In case you missed it. The following was in the Scotsman the other day….
---------------------------------------------------------
TWO runners have been banned from competing in the Edinburgh Marathon for life after they were caught swapping entry numbers.
The Scottish club athletes – a man and a woman – were caught after the man completed the 26.2 miles in a time which saw him win a prize for finishing in the top ten of female runners.
A member of the pair's running club is said to have called organisers after seeing the time, which was faster than the woman could run.
It is the first time competitors have been banned from the event.
Damien O'Looney, Edinburgh marathon marketing director, said: "If something had happened to the male runner we wouldn't have known who he was or who to contact because we would have had the details for the woman who had registered for the race.
"We decided to take action by banning them for life because otherwise Scottish Athletics were going to take action and we thought it would be better if they were banned from our race rather than every race in Scotland."
In a statement, the Marathon organisers said: "Edinburgh Marathon Limited has issued an indefinite ban for the Marathon and races organised by GSI events to a male runner who completed the marathon wearing a race number that was issued to a female competitor. The female athlete has also been banned. The action was taken in conjunction with Scottish Athletics."

COSTAL RUN - 12th JULY
The bus for the clubs outing to the Costal Run will be leaving Hallhill at 6:30. This should give us enough time to get down to Beadnell and get registered (we have to pick up those timing chip diddlies as well as numbers). The bus that has been booked holds slightly more than the number of runners registered – so we could take passengers. 6:30 is, sadly, an ungodly hour so it is hoped that jollity and frivolity can be kept to a minimum.
The bus will then be waiting for us at the end at Alnmouth, with our kit.
A meal has been booked at the Saddle Hotel in Alnmouth at 2:00pm (this is the last sitting at the hotel). The bus is then scheduled to collect us at 5:00pm for the return journey.
Please inform Stuart or Anne if you wish to go on the bus and to the meal.
Oh… And remember your sun cream (that means you Graeme).

Trapain Law Race II (A.K.A "More Photos")
Mary says that the queue of runners at the water crossing with Ian
Rowland in it looks like the scene from the full monty, even the hand
movements are the same. In another photo, Fiona looks to have made
some new friends as they all linked together crossing the river.

POLL - RESULTS
More fun than the Euro Elections and probably more relevant to most peoples lives, the results of our last poll are now in.
38% of respondents stated that they enjoy running on the beach, which was 5% more than the 33% who said they liked the open road (may be slightly less than 33% after some runners altercation with the tarmac at Edinburgh J ).
Surprisingly 47% said they like to run over hill and dale and a massive 66% reported a distinct fondness for forest and woodland paths (so – given that, we’ll see most of you at next winters cross country races).
The most surprising finding was that 52% reported they enjoyed “running alone”. A club for people who like to run alone? There’s a novelty.
Please find another exciting and deeply relevant poll to the right hand side of this sentence…..
That’s the one… to the right and up a bit……
