Devilla Forrest Races

I am delighted to be able to tell you that we are finally able to open entries for the CARNEGIE HARRIERS Devilla Forest Races taking place on 23 February 2014. Both races - the 15k costing £10/£12 and the 5k costing £5/£7 - will officially launch on EntryCentral on Thursday 19 September at 0900. Would you please circulate this information to your club members.

I don't need to remind you to be very careful to enter the correct race - the one clearly badged 'CARNEGIE HARRIERS' - on the correct date - 23 February 2014. As you know, the race already posted is not the club-run race of the past two years.

Both races sold out in a fortnight last year, and there are no entries on the day, so if you are intending to run, you should get yourself to a computer very quickly. We look forward to receiving entries from your club members.

Manor Water Hill Race

This is a good hill race that I did last year. It's a bit close to the marathon for me this time so I will give it a miss. It's the only race I've done where you register in a horse box and where you have a good chance of winning a sheep, or 2 dozen eggs in the raffle.

Nigel Barge 10k - reScheduled date - 17th August 2013

The Nigel Barge 10k will now take place on Saturday 17th August 2013 at 11am

Runners can enter online @ http://www.entrycentral.com/NigelBarge10k
...or by following the instructions @ http://www.maryhillharriers.com/showraces.php?fid=61

There will also be a 3k race for juniors - details of which can be found on the above website.

This is one of Scotland's oldest road races, being run now for more than 60 years. The race commemorates Nigel Barge who was killed in action in Dunkirk during World War II. Nigel was an outstanding officer who trained as a Royal Engineer and came top of his class at Woolwich ("The Shop") - he had helped prepare and map defences around Dunkirk, as well as assisting in the repairing of small craft to ensure the debarkation of his comrades. He was also a licensed pilot and a keen athlete. Nigel's father was Kenneth Barge, late of the Bengal Lancers, a member of the committee of Maryhill Harriers. The race has run every year since 1943
