John Muir Way Opening Ceremony

On 21st April 2014 the new John Muir Way is launched which provides a coast to coast walking, running and cycle route across the central belt of Scotland.  As part of the Homecoming celebrations we are launching the John Muir Way with a Festival in Dunbar on 21st April and a ‘Flag for John Muir’ opening ceremony from Dunbar to North Berwick.

Festival producers, UZ Arts are looking for keen cyclists, walkers and runners to take part in the John Muir Way Opening Ceremony on 21st April 2014.  We want you to carry our emblematic John Muir flags from the launch by the First Minister in Dunbar and take them to either 1mile stop, 5mile stop or whole leg to North Berwick (15miles).

The  beautiful flags have been designed by local school children, and will be provided along with comfortable backpack/bicycle carriers.

Fun Run info

Family Fun Run

If you fancy something a little shorter than a 10km, and something that the kids could run with you then why not enter the Family Fun Run. It's 3km and in the sheltered paths of Lochend Woods. We had a good turn out for this last year and lots of positive feedback. Spread the word and just turn up and enter on the day.

2014 CHAMPIONSHIP RACES

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions for this years club championships. We had a huge number of suggestions so couldn't select every race, but have picked a good mix of races detailed below. Don't be disappointed if some of your favourites are not included - you can feed these in at the end of the year for possible inclusion next year.

We are making some changes to the scoring for 2014 which we've outlined below. We want to make sure that we are rewarding those that are representing the club at a wide number of races across the year and raising the profile of our club, which is one of the aims of having the championship. The system we are trialling is used by Portobello Running Club.

The new scoring will mean that the first individual will receive 10 points, the second 9 and so on. If there are more than 10 in any one race the first would receive the number of points equivalent to the number of runners in the race - ie if there are 12 men in the race, the first man would get 12 points. We are going to then take individuals' 8 best race scores to assess as the final score - this means that you don't need to run every race across the year to be in with a chance of winning and has meant that we've been able to add in a few different races this year to try to suit the different race preferences you have. If there is a draw across those best 8 races we will look at points for 9th/10th races etc....

Any marathons will continue to count but you must let me know in advance what marathon you are undertaking, and ensure you update me with your results. It really helps out with the administration of the club championships to get these updates from you as it makes collation of the results/points less troublesome.

2014 races:
The Portabello Promathon - 01 January
Falkland Trail Run - 9 February
National XC Championships - 22 February
Kings Buildings 5 - 08 March

5K handicap winners will also be able to score 3 points for each win they have across the year

Any issues in relation to race results/scoring should be sent to [...] the committee who meet every 4 weeks. They will discuss the query at their next scheduled meeting and will respond back at that point in time.
