10-Mile Race

The club hosted their annual 10-mile multi-terrain race on Saturday, sponsored by EDF.

The event started and finished at Hallhill Sports Centre, with the runners heading out of Dunbar and taking in Little Pinkerton, Doon Hill, Spott Estate and Pleasance.  Andrew Crichton of Dunbar and Bryan Mackie of City of Edinburgh battled for first place, being neck and neck for much of the race, with Andrew eventually taking first place in 56:55 and Bryan taking the second prize in 57:12.  Callum Reid of HELP took third in 58:12 having had a close run with Gareth Green of Portobello for much of the race.

First lady was Nicola Duncan of Portobello Running Club, who was fifth overall, in a time of 59:59, possibly the fastest time achieved in the event by a female runner.  The second lady was Michelle Hetherington of Helensburgh AAC, finishing in 1:10:46, and third was Katherine Forsyth, unattached, in 1:11:27.

First veteran male was Michael Fullerton, of Portobello, finishing in 7th place in 1:00:55, with club mate Peter Buchanan finishing one place ahead in 1:00:47 to take the male 50+ prize.  First male 60+ prize went to Sandy Wallace of HELP, finishing in 1:11:02.

First lady veteran prize went to Jan Dawson of Penicuik Harriers, finishing in 1:18:10.  First Lady 45+ prize went to Fabienne Thomson of Carnegie Harriers, with a time of 1:17:05, with the 55+ going to Janis Stirton of Portobello, in 1:36:58.

Portobello also took the male and female team prizes.  Ian Rowland, Race Director for the event, thanked everyone for making the race a successful event and also thanked the sponsors, EDF.

Devilla Forrest Races

I am delighted to be able to tell you that we are finally able to open entries for the CARNEGIE HARRIERS Devilla Forest Races taking place on 23 February 2014. Both races - the 15k costing £10/£12 and the 5k costing £5/£7 - will officially launch on EntryCentral on Thursday 19 September at 0900. Would you please circulate this information to your club members.

I don't need to remind you to be very careful to enter the correct race - the one clearly badged 'CARNEGIE HARRIERS' - on the correct date - 23 February 2014. As you know, the race already posted is not the club-run race of the past two years.

Both races sold out in a fortnight last year, and there are no entries on the day, so if you are intending to run, you should get yourself to a computer very quickly. We look forward to receiving entries from your club members.

Carnegie Harriers Club Secretary
