Traprain Law

A rare day of rain in East Lothian did not deter a small group of club
runners from heading to to East Linton for the Traprain Law Hill Race. It
was a wet, muddy and slippery course, but Rhona Anderson held off some
fierce competition to win the women's race. Good runs from Grant, Stuart,
Richard, Neil, Anne and Lee too. Watch this space for the results.

COMPETITION

It's competition time!

The club is going to get a stock of banda, hat, scarf, tube type things made up... This type of thing...

These are going to be given to all members (senior and junior) and also handed out at our next race (Doon Hill).

This is part of our 25th anniversary celebrations. But we want a design that's produced by one of our members.

What we need is a design that covers a maximum area of 24cm x 48cm and can only have three colours: green, black and white (club colours). The design can be a lot smaller and repeated (or "tiled" over the print area.)

While not essential we would prefer something that's relevant to running, relevant to Dunbar and reflects the fact that the club is 25 years old (1986-2011).

We only have a couple of weeks to choose a design so the deadline is tight and the closing date is Wednesday 22nd June.

Please submit your designs via the usual club email address. Entries can be any of the usual format files (jpg, gif, bmp etc).

So get designing now.. Remember there's no prize as such, other than the satisfaction of seeing your design on loads of other runners...

HADDINGTON 10K

A couple of photos of successful Dunbar runners getting their prizes at the recent Haddington 10k.

A great album of action shots is available at Bob Marshalls site.

Junior Win

Congratulations to the Dunbar Primary School athletics squad who once again won the East Lothian Schools athletics competition. Much of that team are members of the club and clearly the hard work they and their coaches are putting in has paid off. Well done to you all.

This Sunday the Juniors head off for Match 2 of the CSSAL.

Simon Wake Comrie Hills Relay Race

Hi

Just a short message to invite you or your club to enter one or more teams for the 2011 Simon Wake Comrie Hills Relay Race on Sunday 11th September.

The race is named in memory of our friend and clubmate Simon who died tragically from pancreatic cancer in 2008, aged 47. The proceeds from the race will go to support research into this terrible disease.

As you may know, the race is a 42k relay with 2,110m of ascent, run in four stages for teams of five runners. After temporary changes to Legs 2 and 4 last year, the 2011 race reverts to its previous route, which starts and finishes in Comrie village in Perthshire and follows a highly scenic route up and around the hills surrounding Glen Lednock.

Legs 2 and 3 cover rough mountain terrain, while Legs 1 and 4, although challenging, are closer to trail races.

Last year 35 teams took part and we hope to see as large a field again in 2011. We can't guarantee sunshine on the day, although the weather has been kind in previous years, but we can offer
°        category and leg prizes provided by our sponsors, The Famous Grouse Experience
°        a barbecue (included in the team entry fee)
°        what we hope will again be a very enjoyable and competitive race.

Full race information and entry form can be found at http://www.strathearnharriers.org.uk/comriehillsrelayrace.htm

SUMMER SERIES

CURRY IN A HURRY

The Portobello Road race is on Thursday 23rd June. This is a nice wee 4 mile run along by the prom that is always popular and occasionally blessed with nice weather.

More importantly it's been suggested that we try to get as many as we can along to this event and then all head off for a curry afterwards.

Photo is indicative only (actual curry may vary).

If you want to go to the curry then please let Stuart know ASAP (or at least by 21st) so we can book.

A Few More Miles......

The last three weekends have seen Dunbar Runners competing in various events - hope everyone has recovered in time for the start of the Summer Series.....

On Sunday, Clarissa Berry and Sheila Morrison ran the Doubletree Dunblane Hydro 7.5 mile - Clarissa finished in 1:09:32, with Sheila not far behind in 1:09:51.

The previous Sunday was the EMF Marathon and Half Marathon with a big "Well Done" to the Marathoners Ian Sills 2:49:00; Stuart Hay 2:55:52; Brian Davidson 3:22:14 (a pb by nearly 10 mins); Neil Jones 3:44:28 (also a pb) and Neal Wyatt 3:48:47 (another outstanding pb). Also A "Well Done" to Half Marathoners Lee Curtis with an impressive time of 1:40:44 (on top of the 7 mile run to the start line), Marjorie Kelly with an excellent time of 1:51:10 and Margaret Maxwell having a good run with 2:05:57 - both Marjorie and Mags achieving pb's.

On Saturday 14th Jane Timms and Theresa Leslie ran the popular Loch Leven Half Marathon, with Jane finishing close to her pb with a time of 1:58:52 and Theresa finishing in 2:09:51. On the same day grant Noble had another excellent run finishing 6th overall in the Penicuik 10K with a time of 36:53. Richard Taylor finished in 39:11 and Andy Anderson in 44:53.

Well done everyone, particularly as so many of the races have meant battling against high winds.
