Cross-Country - Norham

The 21^st Borders Cross-Country Series got off to a flying start on Sunday 15^th November, with 68 runners taking part in the junior event and 166 in the senior event at Norham.  The course was particularly muddy in places, despite the sunny weather, giving the runners a challenging race, along with four stream crossings in the senior event.

 

Bruce Lindsay of Dunbar was first East Lothian runner home in the junior race, finishing in 14^th place in 12:57. Andrew Gough finished in 13:40, with Keiran Floyd on his heels, finishing one second behind.  Club mate Joseph Kowbel finished not too far behind in 13:59, with HELP's Robin Woods finishing in 14:16. Dunbar fielded 14 runners in total in the junior event including Greg Noble (14:31), Rory Somerville (15:04), Jordan Robbins (15:22), Cory Smith (15:48), Katherine Andrew (16:02), Katie Proudfoot (16:08), Claire Smith (17:08), Linda McCandlish (18:11), Anna Balfour (running for HELP – 19:20), Katrina Maguire (19:46) and Ruth Kowbel (20:36).

 

The senior race also attracted a number of East Lothian runners with Dunbar's Andrew Crichton taking second place overall, just six seconds behind Keith Hood of Corstorphine who finished in 23:31.  Stuart Hay came in with a time of 26:13, quickly followed by club mate Ian Rowland in 26:17.  Ian Sills finished two places behind in 26:33, with Grant Noble a second behind.  Eddie Balfour and Sandy Wallace of HELP finished in 26:49 and 28:46 respectively, with Dunbar's Craig Goldie completing his first cross-country in a creditable time of 28:48.  Also racing in the event were Brian Davidson and Lee Curtis (both Dunbar), Fred McCain (HELP), Neil Teather and Anne Hay (Dunbar), Saartje Drijver and Claire Simpson (HELP), Sheila Morrison, Sheila Kerr (both Dunbar) and Judith Donaldson (HELP). 

 

All runners are looking forward to the next race in the series, taking place at Lauder on the 29^th.

Lauder Cross-Country

A wee message from Graeme Sutherland

 

Please pass the following info on to your club.
 
The Leisure Centre in Lauder will be open for 10.30-1.30 for somewhere warm to change/use the loo and have a shower. please do not bring any of the cross country course in with you-IE LEAVE ANY DIRTY SHOES OUTSIDE.
 
The Limpers will provide hot drinks and bikkies during and after the races for a donation from runners and supporters.Marshals and Red Cross will be welcome to enjoy refreshments provided courtesy of us. This will be in the park or at the Leisure centre if the weather is appaling
 
Please Park your car respectfully in the village-the park is around 400m from the Leisure centre. try and car share where possible to avoid congestion and parking in front of Lauder Kirk which strangly enough is pretty busy on a Sunday. 
 
If you have not done the route before it involves a lot of hills and mud as well as water and the odd gate and duckboards and occaisional wildlife and dog walkers. It is suitable for most types of trail shoes but spikes might cause problems on short stretch of tarmac path and duckboards.

Christmas Intervals

The club propose intervals with a difference for the run up to Christmas period!  To make us all feel like real athletes we propose to run an interval session on the track at Meadowbank Stadium, on the 8th December, followed by a meal out in Edinburgh.  The likely cost for the session would be £4.20 for each adult who takes part in the track session.  Changing facilities would be available at Meadowbank.  For club members who don't want to undertake the interval session, there is an option to run a loop through Edinburgh and meet up for the meal later.

Please let Theresa or Anne know asap if you are interested in coming, specifying whether you are interested in the interval session or just the meal.

MDAC - CHRISTMAS PARTY NIGHT

MDAC are having a Christmas Party Night.

Venue: Ravelston House (close to the Ship Inn on the East side of Musselburgh)
Date: Friday 4th December
Time: 7.30pm to 1 am
Cost: £30 (£10 deposit to Marilyn). This includes a hot buffet served at 8pm.

Put all that training to good use, by dancing non-stop for 5 hours (half hour off for food).

Run 4 It

Just a reminder about Run 4 It coming along next week.  

 

Ben Lee is the Manager of Run 4 It and will be the person bringing the stock down / advising/ fitting footwear on Tuesday 17th at Hallhill. Have a look at the R4It website and see if there is anything that you are interested and you can drop Ben an email and he will bring it down on the 17th for trying on /fitting etc.

Cross-Country - Dunbar

Just to remind everyone that we will be hosting our leg of the Borders Cross-Country series on Sunday 13th December, so will be looking for marshals (and also helpers to mark out the course).  Please remember that this event cannot go ahead without marshals over the whole course (not everyone can marshal at the start unfortunately).  The system last year worked quite well with small groups marking up their own sections of the course (which they also marshal), then removing the markings at the end.

 

We will try to arrange a weekend jog around the course for those who are unsure of it so everyone knows what they will be doing on the day.

 

Anne will be responsible for organising the marshals
