SUDDEN DEATH IN ATHLETES
At a recent HELP committee meeting, discussion arose regarding the fatal incidents at the Great North Run and more recently Phil O'Donnell's untimely death.
HELP have organised a free evening lecture where Dr Gordon Cameron, GP, Musculoskeletal Specialist and doctor to Falkirk Football Club will cover the most common reasons for sudden death in athletes. This will take place at the Maitlandfield Hotel in Haddington at 8pm on Monday 14th April.
HELP have kindly opened up this meeting to members of the other local clubs. Please let Stuart or Anne know if you plan to attend as soon as possible

Could Have Stayed at Home Eating Chocolate Eggs...
outside the new DG One centre in Dumfries and headed out around the
surrounding countryside, before heading back to the finish by the
river, just a short distance from the starting point.
Stuart Hay finished in 8th place overall with a time of 3:07:49, with
Anne Hay finishing in 3:45:09, taking the prize for 2nd lady super
veteran.
All the runners enjoyed post-race refreshments provided by Dumfries
Council at DG One, which the runners were given use of before the
official opening of the centre to the public in the early summer.
On the same day, Steve and Mary Pattison braved the chilly weather to
take part in the North Tyneside 10K. The race commenced in North
Shields, following the coastal route, to finish in Whitley Bay. Steve
finished in a commendable time of 44:17 with Mary finishing in 53:31.
Also that day, Sheila Morrison, in preparation for the London
Marathon, ran the Alloa Round Table Half Marathon in 2:00:42. Again,
the runners were subjected to cold conditions, but that didn't deter
Sheila from putting in another good, steady run.
Yesterday Karen Page enjoyed a good run at the Welcome the World 5K at
Holyrood Park, her time of 24:36 standing her in good stead for the
Belhaven Best Dunbar Boundary Race on Saturday 5th April.
The Club Championship Well Under Way.....
March and attracted a number of runners, with 117 runners setting off
from King's Buildings.
Stuart Hay took 24th place overall, finishing in 29:41, with Graeme
Jones having a good run, finishing in 31:22. Steve Pattison came in
with a time of 33:53, Anne Hay 37:02, Karen Page 39:11 and Mary
Pattison 41:57.
The following Sunday saw the re-vamped Edinburgh Half Marathon taking
place - starting at Cramond and finishing at Musselburgh race course -
a route enjoyed by many of the runners. Steve Pattison had another
excellent run, achieving 1:33:31. Neil Jones managed a sprint in the
last stretch to achieve 1:45:40. Lucy Martin finished well in 1:53:02
with Mary Pattison close by, finishing in 1:53:15. Sharron Callachan
also had a good race, justifiably happy with her time of 1:55:03.

Great Edinburgh Run Invitation
I wonder if you could help me? I work with a small charity called the
Child Brain Injury Trust, and we have been given 5 places for the
Edinburgh Bupa 10K on 4th May. We're desperately looking for keen
runners who might take on this challenge.
What we do
We work with children who have had an acquired brain injury, as a
result of trauma to the head and illness (such as encephalitis,
meningitis and brain tumours for example). We support families who
are coping with the huge changes brain injury brings. For the child
it may mean physical disability, problems with memory and learning,
and profound psychological and social effects. For the family, the
changes include financial strain and problems claiming benefits,
problem accessing the right support for the child at school,
difficulties for siblings (who often become young carers) and much
more.
