A Good Weekend For....

....a couple of races.

 

On Saturday Ian Rowland and Lee Curtis took part in the Two Breweries Race - 18 miles from Traquair House, Innerleithen to Broughton, with over 4,900 feet of climb.  Ian finished 33rd in 3:36:59 and Lee in 4:10:19 - both improving on their 2008 times by around 9 minutes.

 

On Sunday at the Norham 10K Grant Noble finished 3rd overall in 36:49.  Stuart Hay finished in 4th place in 37:00 and Ian Sills in 6th place in 37:44 - those results meant that Stuart took the prize for first male vet and the threesome bagged the male team prize.  Brian Davidson finished in 41:38 with Susan Lyle not far behind in 42:43, which gave her the prize for 1st female overall, also taking the first to the top of the bank prize.  Anne Hay finished in 48:41, receiving the first female super vet prize, with new member Andrew Sheldrick, in his first race, having a good run in 49:24.  Jane Timms also had a good run, finishing in 54:23 which gave the Dunbar ladies the female team prize.  Joe Bourhill took the over 70 trophy, finishing in 57:29.  An excellent set of results!

Races and PB's

Some of us watched the Great North Run on TV yesterday, but some chose to run it and got a PB - namely Lee Curtis, achieving a time of 1:33:27.  Well done, forging ahead in such huge crowds of runners.

 

Also yesterday at the Stirling 10K, Brian Davidson cracked the under 40 minutes after his 40:03 PB at Paisley 3 weeks ago, finishing the race in 39:48.  So another "well done".  Theresa Lesley ran the 10K, which had over 800 runners taking part, in 59:29.

 

The previous week had Ian Rowland taking part in the Petzle Lake District Mountain Marathon Trial ahead of another challenge in the shape of the Two Breweries this coming weekend.

 

Another popular recent event was the Great Scottish Run Half Marathon, in which Rhona Anderson had another excellent run, finishing in 1:29:13.

The MacAndrew Road Relay Race 2011

Victoria Park City Of Glasgow is once again hosting the 72nd annual MacAndrew Road Relay Race on Saturday the 1st of October 2011 at Jordanhill. The start time of the race is 3pm. Registrations will be accepted on the day at the Refectory within Jordanhill School, Chamberlain Road, Glasgow.  Athletes should register for the event before 2.30pm.  Registration Forms can be downloaded here.

 

The Start/Finish line is on Helensburgh Drive, about 1/2 mile from the changing and registration area.

Teams of 4 men or 3 women will circuit the three and a quarter mile course.  The cost of entry will be £16 for a mens team and £12 for a female team. Vets are 35 years for women and 40 years for men.

Last years winning team was Glasgow University Hares and Hounds "A", they finished in a combined time of in a time of 1:06:13.

VP-Glasgow won the senior women's race, finishing in a combined time of 59:07.  Just under 100 teams competed for the prizes on offer in 2010.  This year we expect to exceed that number.

 

£700 in vouchers to be spent at Achilles Heel on Great Western Road, Glasgow, will be awarded in prizes to the winning teams and individuals on the day.

Rod's Run - 10K Multi-Terrain Race

Berwick Harriers are organising the second Rod's Run 10k multi-terrain race, following last year's charity walk and run.

The date of this year's event will beSunday, October 16^thand will start from Spittal  Point Car Park at 12 noon.

Registration for Rod's Runwill be at Spittal Bowling Club, Sea Road, Spittal, Berwick-upon-Tweed. TD15 1RN between 10-15am and 11-45am.  The race entry is limited to 200 and entry is only on the day.

The entry fee is £10 for UKA affiliated runners and £12 for non-affiliated runners.  There will be medals for all finishers and also trophies for first male and first female finishers.

Berwick Harriers  will donate £2 from each entry + the proceeds from the earlier charity walk to a cancer research.

A friendly, enjoyable race - some of us did it last October and hoped this would become an annual event, so think about giving it a try.

LONDON 2012

The club have been given two places this time round - the completed forms, along with payment have to be with the organisers by early January. 

 

As with previous years, anyone who applied for London and has not being successful in the ballot, is entitled to a club place (if there are several people in this position, the names will be drawn out of a hat).  Let Anne know if you would like to apply for one of the club places.  If there is no one in this position, but there is anyone who left it too late to enter and would like a place, then you can note your interest with Anne as soon as possible.

25th Anniversary - Continued

After the 10-mile race this year it is intended that we run the 10-mile course as a club after the race is over and the presentations have taken place - in the retro vests, of course.  
 
A booking has been made at The Rocks for 7:30 that evening for those wishing to attend.
