Dunbar Running Club hosted their annual 10K on Saturday 4th April, the Belhaven Best Dunbar Boundary Race, a popular race in the road running calendar. Fortunately the threatened rain did not come to anything when the race was taking place, though the runners did experience some gusts over part of the course, adding to the challenge.
Seventeen year old local runner Andrew Crichton won the race for the hosting club, finishing over a minute ahead of the second runner in a time of 33:58. Unattached runner, Colin Menzies took second place in 35:08, with Gareth Mayze of Teviotdale taking third in 35:16. The first woman home was Susan Ridley of Edinburgh AC in 38:01 with Fionn Nairn of HBT second woman home in 41:24 and Katie Whitehouse of Central third in 43:28. Dunbar took the male team prize and JogScotland the female team prize. The club were presented with a gift from Romanian runners Victor Vlad, who came 6th overall (and 2nd male vet.) and Stephan Oprena (11th) on behalf of their club Locomotiva Bucharest.
At the Chris Hoy Edinburgh Half Marathon on Sunday 5th, Musselburgh's Alex Oliver was the first East Lothian club runner home in a time of 1:32:55, with HELP's John Hughes finishing in 1:33:02. Also running were Neil Wyatt of Dunbar, David Lott (HELP), Peter Methven (MADAC), Jennifer Rutherford (MADAC), Ian Murphy, Gordon Muchall and Malcolm Quinn (HELP), Morag Phillips, Lyn Solley and Rhona Currie (MADAC).
On the same day, Ian Rowland, Stuart Hay, Anne Hay and Sheila Morrison of Dunbar Running Club took part in the aptly named Heaven and Hell Half Marathon organised by Perth Road Runners, starting from Scone Airport. The course has been described by Runners World Magazine as the toughest half marathon in Scotland and certainly lived up to its name, with some challenging climbs. Ian took third place overall in a time of 1:24:51, with Stuart finishing 7th and taking the prize for 2nd veteran in 1:25:44. Anne finished in 1:54:29 and Sheila in 2:14:46, with all runners enjoying the hospitality of the host club afterwards.
The weather held out!
Gray skies did not bring the threatened rain to the 2009 Belhaven Best Dunbar Boundary Race, and 252 runners took to the back roads and paths of Dunbar to complete this years race.
A big "thank you" to the sponsors, the marshalls, the police, the red cross, the staff at Hallhill, the timekeepers and the back room workers who made this event possible.
A full report and more pictures will follow.
But for the meantime provisional results can be found HERE: http://www.dunbarrunningclub.supanet.com/Boundary2009.htm
